My wife thinks I always favour my older brother, Ian. This may be true in some ways but it is certainly not deliberate and my love for both of my brothers has never been stronger.
Paul, the middle brother (I'm the youngest) often works away and his company has been the subject of two takeovers in as many years. At the time this created a great deal of uncertainty in his life but I am pleased to report that this seems to have settled down.
This poem was written, standing up, on the train home from Sydney one night.
Paul, this one is for you, thanks for everything, you have been a truly wonderful part of my life.

PJ's Song

Ian came to stay,
And I penned him a song,
Now it's PJ's turn,
Time to write the wrong.

Me and our kid,
We've been through a lot,
Some happy memories,
Some best forgot.

I remember a time,
Toe to toe out the back,
You never threw a punch,
I'm grateful, thanks for that.

You taught me to drive,
Had a near miss or two,
But you battled on,
And finally got me through.

When you went to London,
And had the first Miamis in town,
You were so very proud,
Of my next hand-me-down.

We worked together, too,
During the rise and fall,
It's a shame all that effort,
Amounted to bugger all.

Now we've flown the nest,
And are so many miles apart,
But you're never far away,
From my thoughts or my heart.

You've married a lovely Irish girl,
And I know you'd never swap B,
Even when she staggers home,
After the odd martini.

You've had three kids,
Katie, Robert & Sean,
They're all soccer mad,
And want a bigger back lawn.

And you'll be as proud as Punch,
And sitting there with me,
When they score the winning goal,
In the final at Wemberley.

And now the job is looking shaky,
And do you move the tribe to Leeds?
And I guess a Dad's first choice,
Is always his family's needs.

And if you are going to move,
And pull everything asunder,
Why not give some thought,
To moving Down Under ?

Now as these lines come to an end,
There's one thing I'd like to state,
Paul, you're not just a brother,
You're a bloody good mate.
