Golden Boy - A poem from a mother to her new arrival

Form location: http://www.agiftofpoetry.com/poem_request_form.htm

Submitted: Tue Apr  9 19:03:43 EDT 2002 from agiftofpoetry.com

Full Name:             Tina R. Wright

Who do you want the poem written for?: My first son - Robert James Wright III -  who was born March 27th, 2002

Why do you want the poem written ?: My husband and I currently have a 2 year old daughter - Jessica Waverly Wright.  I just recently gave birth to our second child - a beautiful baby boy.  He will be the fortunate one to carry on my husband's family name, "Wright".  The baby's full name is Robert James Wright III.  My husband is named Robert James Wright II.  My husband's father is named Robert James Wright.  My husband's grandfather is named Robert Morris Wright - hence the baby is the "III" and not the "IV".  Everyone has hoped and waited for this special day when a baby boy would be born to carry on the "Wright" family name.  Hence, I thought it would be very special to have a unique poem written to include on his birth announcement, have framed at his first birthday party, and eventually give to him at his 18th birthday when he graduates from high school to pursue whatever dreams he may have at that time.

Key Messages:          *  That he will carry on the "Wright" family name - and what the expectations are for him as described in the next section below - through the descriptions of his father.
*  Also, I would like to add that I have always really liked the Rod Stewart recorded song "Forever Young".  I think that it sends a very special meaning about what a parent expects for their child:

Recorded by Rod Stewart
Written by Bob Dylan

Forever Young

May the good Lord be with you down every road you roam
And may sunshine and happiness surround you when you're far from home
And may you grow to be proud, dignified, and true
And do unto others as you'd have done to you. And in my heart you'll always stay forever young.
Forever young..

May good fortune be with you
May your guiding light be strong.
Build a stairway to heaven with a prince or a vagabond.
And may you never love in vain
And in my heart you will remain forever young
Forever young..

And when you finally fly away
I'll be hoping that I served you well
For all the wisdom of a lifetime no one can ever tell.
But whatever road you choose, I'm right behind you, win or lose
Forever young, forever young

*  I would somehow like to capture the expectations of the "Wright" family name with the message from the Rod Steward recorded song into a poem - if this makes sense.

Memorable Moments:     *  The baby looks exactly like his father while Jessica looks exactly like me - The baby has very light skin, light hair and eyes of blue (which I have a feeling may stay that way) while Jessica had a darker complexion, dark hair and darker eyes (her eyes are brown).  My husband has blond hair, blue eyes and is Australian/English.  I have brown hair, brown eyes and am Hispanic/Italian.
*  My husband grew up in a family where he was the only boy - he had two older sisters.  Thus, he was always viewed as the "Golden Boy" (term given by his grandparent Wrights).  In a way, I think his family may view this new baby as the next "Golden Boy".
*  My husband always had that "Golden Boy" image as he very easily excelled and accomplished a great deal:  He was a very gifted track star during his entire schooling years, attended UC Berkeley, obtained a law degree and currently has a very good job at Hewlett Packard.  These are the bigger achievements and are only supplemental to his other everyday talents/interests.  He is a very intelligent man with interests that range from obtaining a private pilots license to viewing/discussing history events.  He is the type of person that as our wedding videographer said five years ago:  "Wow, Robert is a great catch, what hasn't he done or excelled at..."  Adding to this is the fact that he is a great person.  Again, I think his family hopes that this baby will be just like my husband and achieve even more success than his dad.
*  At our wedding, we did a video of each of us growing up - starting with baby pictures through our time together.  For my husband's baby pictures, he chose the Karen Carpenter song - where the beginning says words to the effect:  "On the day that you were born...angels came down from heaven and decided to create a dream...so they sprinkled sunlight in your hair..."  My husband really liked that verse of the song - again, he was like the "angel" in their family.
*  Finally, it was very special that the baby was born on March 27th, the wedding anniversary of his grandparent Wrights.  What a special gift!

Style:                 Happy with meaning

Package Type:          Deluxe

Last thoughts:         I would prefer the frame - I want a cherry wood frame - more of a mahogany color cherry wood.

Golden Boy

Our destinies are forever entwined,

you'll be forever young, forever in my heart,

I'll try to explain those feelings exactly,

but it's hard just knowing where to start.

On the day that you were born,

the angels decided to create a dream come true,

and although those words are not original,

they are simply a perfect description of you.

Because they've sprinkled sunlight in your hair,

and they've given you the bluest of blue eyes,

and you've got your father's good looks,

but of course, that should come as no surprise.

You see, you have a strong heritage,

and your Dad was a "pretty good catch",

and ours has been the perfect marriage,

all in all, a sensational match.

Your Grandparents are proud too,

and you were born on their wedding day,

you now have a lot to live up to,

but we'll be with you every step of the way.

I wish you happiness all your life,

I wish you straight roads with not too many bends,

I wish you love, meaning and dignity,

I wish you lots and lots of special friends.

I also wish you the odd valley,

because there your true seeds of greatness will grow,

just know that we'll always be there for you,

and that's all you'll ever really need to know.

And the Wright name will continue,

and that's a source of understandable pride,

and those words are full of meaning,

because you are our dreams, personified.

Because there's a proud name on my lips,

and it's a name those angels must have heard,

for I'm so just so very, very happy to say:

Welcome ! Robert James Wright The Third.

Tina kindly replied:

I love it! I love it!  I love it!  Don't change a thing - it's GREAT!  My family will be very surprised and pleased - you captured exactly what I wanted, it is amazing!  You definitely have a very unique talent!  I will be using you again in the future.

You can publish our story and keep the names as is.  We would like the parchment scroll.  We would like the poem autographed with the original handwritten draft.

Best Regards,

Tina
